GC Booking promotes and produces original indie rock bands at Finnegan’s Pub in Hoboken about six to eight Thursdays per year.
The mission is three-fold:
Bring original indie rock back to Hoboken
Give up-and-coming musicians a place to play
Cultivate a community of musicians and fans
Godfrey Chan, the sole proprietor of GC Booking, has been a lifelong rock and pop music fan. Ever since the top-40 radio hits of the mid 80s were played constantly on the radio, he began collecting albums on all all formats and adapted through the streaming revolution.
He’s attended live shows since the early 90s. Upon moving to Hoboken in 2000, he frequented the legendary Maxwell’s seeing bands such as the National, The Walkmen, The Head and the Heart, Yo La Tengo, the Front Bottomms, Fountains of Wayne, and more.
The demise of Maxwell’s in 2013 created a vacuum of places for up-and-coming independent rock bands to play in town, and the surrounding area.
When the back room at Finnegan’s Pub became a dedicated space for live music, he jumped at the chance to help book shows debuting with a lineup of Sonic Blume, OM53, and Teen Idle in April 2022.
Since then, Chan has booked 25 plus shows and counting and worked with over 50 bands.
